18:45 for 19:00 start
Mr Inua Ellams is an award winning superkid of wonderous proportions!
Inua is an award winning poet and performe
r, a writer with a style influenced by classic literature and hip hop, by Keats as it is by MosDef. Rooted in a love for rhythm and language, he crosses 18th century romanticism and traditional story telling with contemporary diction, loose rhythm and rhyme.
2009 saw the debut of his first play – The 14th Tale, which toured nationally, scooping a prestigious Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival before returning to London for a sold-out run at the Cottesloe, National Theatre.
His 2nd play Untitled toured nationally for
30 dates including 2 weeks at Soho Theatre in October 2010.
Inua will be using his amazing talents with the written word to help you unlock your own creative writing abilities with this FANTASTIC Creative Writing Workshop!
So what will you be doing?
The first hour of Inua’s workshop will be jammed full of quick-fire writing exercises that hinge on spontaneity and quick reactions to given or conjured stimulus. The first exercise explores images & their meanings, and how with a mix and match of definitions, new ideas can emerge. The second fools around with simultaneous happenings and our ability to remain present, and the last exercise re-imagines the popular ‘list poem’ structure.
The second hour of Inua’s workshop is inspired by his last play Untitled (see link (http://bit.ly/bgjoca). Commissioned by Soho Theatre, Untitled is a modern day myth split between inner city England and mid-forest Nigeria. The play tries to rectify a mistake that occurred in a boy’s childhood, and using personal stories as a starting point, Inua will lead the group in crafting a individual narratives where participants are also invited to address a past mistake.
