FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT DANCE MUSIC!
After a mega successful crowd funding campaign, by the power of the people, 47SOUL have recorded and are releasing their debut EP!
We have the honour of hosting the launch at the legendary Jazz Cafe, London. It’s going to be one of those historical moments that we’ll all look back on in years to come.
Tickets: £8 adv/£12 door
The four members: Z the People , El Far3i (Co-founder of Jordanian band El Morabba3) , Walaa Sbait (from Northern Palestine based group Ministry of Dubkey), and El Jehaz (producer and guitarist for Jordanian band Autostrad) met as successful solo artists and producers. All with Palestinian heritage and divided by borders across Palestine and Jordan, they united under the name 47SOUL after being exposed to each other’s music on the internet.
Overcoming physical and logistical challenges, they came together to play electronic Palestinian street music. 47SOUL writes and performs to speak about freedom of movement, whether that’s sparking new dance styles or singing about breaking down border check points. For the past 2 years the band has based itself between Jordan and the UK, to spread their new wave of Arabic music.
Their sound is rooted in Arabic Dabke, the celebration dance music from the Bilad Al-Sham area; the name for the land that spans Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, and Jordan. 47SOUL hypes it up with analog synthesizers, drum machines, epic guitar lines, and tripped-out English and Arabic verses from the four singers. The electronic and urban influence in their music takes them far out of the ‘world music’ context and places them in the genre of a new generation of international electronic/hip hop acts that are reinventing the old for the future. This new sound of 47SOUL is called ShamStep.
Their debut EP is set for UK release on the 15th June, with their launch event on 17th June at The Jazz Cafe, London. Following that, the band will be on tour across UK festivals, including a main stage set at WOMAD and 4 shows at Glastonbury Festival.
