MC Xander

London’s MC Xander uses nothing more than his voice, a mic, an fx box and a loop-pedal to create intricate, multilayered music that enchants, amazes and moves. Although an expert beatboxer, Xander’s sound goes way beyond just showing off technique and creates something musically powerful and evocative, especially if you get to see it live. Beautiful choir-esque melodies mix with fat beatbox and growling dubby sub-bass, topped with Xander’s conscious brand of lyricism. The sound he makes is so sonically rich and danceable, it is easy to forget it is all from the mouth.

Having come out of London’s breakbeat scene in 2005, he worked with acts like The Freestylers, Rennie Pilgrim and The Stanton Warriors, holding a residency at the London Club ‘The End’. Tiring of being the ‘hype man’ for other people’s sets, in 2006 he created a solo set with his pioneering loopstation technique to human beatbox, and almost immediately began rocking crowds around the world, with belief defying one-man all-vocal sets.

Xander’s versatility and universal appeal has seen him share stages with big acts in the worlds of both hip-hop and alternative music. He has played with DJ Cubert, Mobb Deep, Whoo Kid and 3 times DMC winner, DJ Craze, as well as platinum selling singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner and electronic up-comer, Jamie Woon.

Xander is a UK festival favourite, playing regularly at events like Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Glade, The Big Chill and Shambala.

February 2011 sees the release of Xander’s much awaited debut album, eyeopeness, a pioneering all-beatbox album, even though it sounds deceptively like an entire studio of synths, instruments and possibly an orchestra were used!

“MC Xander is by far the most musical, and for me, the most talented beat-boxer out there. His live show is mesmerising, layer upon layer of sound all from the same pair of lungs. He is simply astonishing.”  Eddy Temple-Morris – XFm DJ & promoter

“I’m absolutely blown away. It sounds fantastic, it’s as legitimate and as brilliant as any hip-hop piece that I have heard, and the fact that he’s done it all with his own gob is just breathtaking. It really is.” Stephen Merchant – BBC Radio 6

“It was, however, MC Xander’s performance that stole the show. The beatboxer had the crowd in raptures… His voice was a revelation.”  Stranger magazine

“The best beatbox display I have ever seen.”  The Sun

“MC Xander is a pioneer – taking beatboxing into the studio to make vocal music without compromising any of the depth or richness of the music in his mind is an amazing achievement, hats off to him!”  Shlomo – Beatboxer & London Southbank Centre Artist in Residence
