Polarbear
feat. Duncan Bellamy of Portico Quartet
Since the move from Birmingham to London way back when, this bear has been steadily becoming a household name. His motto of 'keep it simple' and masterful story-writing skills has led to nationwide sell out performances, the writing of a one man show, radio 1 sessions, channel 4 awards for upcoming writers, festival tours, workshops and somewhere along the way he managed to hook up with Portico Quartet to write some tunes together. Come and see this exciting stripped down collab and get a taste for what the OneTaste Collective has to offer.

WOON

It wouldn't be a OneTaste without the WOON! A co-founder of this 3 year old show, whether he was performing, stage managing, web updating, spreading the OT name far and wide or running WoonTaste, Jamie is a big reason OneTaste is where it is today.
Jamie's excursions into the darkside of soul, acoustic and electronica have earned him stages all over the world, i-tunes single of the week and a rep for being one of the most progressive and talented singer songwriters in the UK. Armed with a guitar, loop stations, new tunes and that killer voice, don't be too puzzled if you find yourself chanting 'WOOOOOON' by the end of the evening, everyone else will be too. ☺

The Cedar

It's not hard to gather thumb piano, accordion, clarinet, cello ukelele, glockenspiel, violin & trumpet together onstage. What's harder is to arrange them into textures, dynamics and above all, rhythms you wouldn't get from your bog-standard band line-up. The Cedar make beautiful music with melody lines passed around so often, so gracefully and so skilfully that they maintain a fresh twinkliness at every turn. But what really amazes us about this electic Bristol-based band, is how with over 8 instruments played in any one song, they present brilliantly simple and direct performances, which are generally segued with some endearing and silly humour. We think you might love 'em. :)

J'Nay

J'Nay, accompanied by his new band will be bringing you his fresh version of retro soul with a new wave edge. For us, it has always been J'Nay's supremely classic soul voice and the personality that comes through his performance and song-writing that make him a OneTaste favourite. MOBO award winer in 2003, J'Nay has been setting standards on the London live circuit for quite sometme now. He'll bring smiles to your faces and warmth to your soul and backd with a live band, expect some serious head-nodding action!

Olivia Chaney

We first saw Olivia playing a gig with Nick Mulvey for the Vortex Jazz Tour. Her transcendent vocals accompanied by guitar, harmonium and delay pedals, create the perfect fusion of an ancient and future sound.
And let's not forget her songwriting! Singing in English, Norwegian and Spanish, Olivia will conjure images of dark-eyed sailors and damsels in distress you're your vision. Rarely will you find a performer with unusual depth and passion.

Our Springtime line up is finally here! All new acts for Springtime :)BALLALOUDA - DOCKERS MC - PETE JOSEF - JOHN BERKAVITCH - FIONA BEVAN!!!...
Ballalouda

A wonderful 8 piece Latino/Funk outfit are going to give us our energetic injection this Sunday! The biggest line up to grave the OneTaste stage; expect horns and ass-shaking rhythms. In their owns words...'A few songs fished somewhere out of the Mediterranean spawned the Ballalouda project, a small band which has never stopped growing. A chance encounter with El Señor Ballalouda (literally: "the man who fishes in the sunshine") gave the band their name and also their destiny: to deliver uplifting, hip-shaking grooves and lyricism direct to the hearts and minds of all people, playing shows in London, Paris, Venice and the occasional fishing village.'

Pete Josef

This Bristol based artist is someone you need to keep an ear out for over the coming year. Pete Josef capitvated a OneTasteWest crowd last November and is now moving onto our main event in the Globe. This guy is a serious singer. Expect sweet tones and soulful originals from this creative voice in modern soul music.

Dockers MC

First seen at Latitude festival by the OneTaste crew, this quirky lady who goes by the name Dockers MC had us caught up in her tales of London life and hilarious delivery. She manages to collect pockets of words together to create a type of 'flo-etry' that makes your brain tap its feet and smile at the same time. Its Dockers' clarity and hilarity combined that makes her talent immensely entertaining. Delivered in a captivating way that literally has the audience indulging on her every word, and vying to be caught in her dottily dressed eye contact. She will soon be embarking on a UK tour supporting Luke Wright, so catch her in London before the jet setting starts.

John Berkavitch

John Berkavitch has been a friend of OneTaste's since we were a little gig called Nii! Renaissance man Berkavitch deserves the status of legend on many accounts; not least because he is now receiving deserved attention for being one of the best spoken word artists in the UK, or because he a gifted breakdancer, conceptual artist or theatre performer, but even more so because last time he and the OneTaste posse were at Latitude Festival, he spent the entire weekend dressed up and talking as a pirate. This and his beard are some of the many reasons that we love him...The video below explains the rest.

Fiona Bevan

A growing name on the London acoustic circuit, Fiona Bevan was seen by OneTaste at a gig in Norwich where she gave a grin inducing perofrmance :). This self-accompanied singer songwriter bestows her audience with an upbeat, rhythmical, head-nodding guitar hooks and effortless, song-bird vocals. Her music is fresh like Springtime and uniquely placed in the solo/acoustic world.

JAMIE WOON - EXCENTRAL TEMPEST - MARK HOLE - ROGER ROBINSON - JOHN KENZIE + ONETASTE CHOIRClick here to view our listings archive
Jon Kenzie

The final addition to a stellar lineup, we're excited to have Jon perform his first gig in the Globe at the Bedford with us.
Hailing from Manchester, Jon first came to OneTaste's attention through our favourite soul diva, Yamit Mamo. Jon played a brilliant set in our ChaiWallahs tent at Glastonbury and then did a glorious full band set in the tavistock room at the OneTaste Festival in November.
Jon is a realdeal singer-songwriter and a mean acoustic guitarist blessed with rhythm, choice guitar licks and a whiskey and cigarettes voice that comes straight from the heart. For this gig he'll be accompanied by Justin Shearn on keyboards and backing vocals. Not to be missed!

Jamie Woon

"It's like listening to Stevie Wonder minus his piano in mono, then stereo with a world music CD playing in the background which features bongos and voices of whales. For all high street buskers who strum a tuneless guitar to a pan-pipe recreation of Celine Dion's My Love Will Go On, Jamie is an inspiration."

Excentral Tempest

One of the most rousing spoken word artists in London, Excentral Tempest is a multiple slam winner and her passionate delivery, message and artistic wordplay appeals to hip hop heads and literati alike.
"'I'm the footfall that starts the avalanche, the issue of a man who farmed tea in afghanistan, i know that words cut hearts in half in ways that daggers cant, and still i stand solemn watching fools doing the braggers dance, but they dont stand a chance against themselves if no one else, they're lost in their own silliness and trickery, thinking they rebelling but really their hearts are rickety, they're caught up in the system just exhibiting complicity, while days are dense, like ancient forestry..."

Mark Hole as SINGAWAREWOLF

The inimitable Mark Hole makes his debut at OneTaste in the Globe but he's no stranger to regulars of OneTasteWest and performed possibly the most hilarious set of the OneTaste Festival. A born entertainer, accompanying himself on piano, this man is a hoot. Mark combines a totally unique voice - enormous, yet sensitive, part croon, part light tenor; with a warped and original songwriting talent, surreal, moving and often downright deviant. Not to be missed.
MySpace: www.myspace.com/markhole
Roger Robinson

Noted by Decibel as being one of 50 writers to have had most influence on the black British writing canon in the past 50 years, Roger is a multi talented storyteller, poet, and musician. There's nothing quite like a good story read well and Roger's the man in this field. Beautifully written short stories, imaginative, funny and endearing, delivered with his lilting Trinidadian twang and an infectious personality, Roger's debut set at a OneTaste Globe event promises to be a real treat.

OneTaste Choir

OneTaste's resident choir, directed by Mae McKenna are back with some new material, only they don't know it yet! The choir is now concentrating on singing Circlesongs, a concept conceived by Bobby McFerrin, these are spontaneous, improvised vocal fragments made up of repeated sung phrases which grow, morph and develop in front of everyone to form a big and often surprising sound. Feel free to join in!
